Hi everyone,

A year and a half ago I thought I’d surprise my dad by getting him a Mercedes E350 coupe AMG line as he had never had a coupe car before.

He loved the car BUT me and my wife had a baby a few weeks ago and one day when my parents came for a visit my dad said, son, the car has been great but it has to go!
I asked why and his reply was, now that I’m a grandfather, I will need something practical. Something with 4 doors.

As if I didn’t have enough things to deal with already, now I had one more thing added on my list of things I had to do! 🤪
I put his car up for sale and the first person that came to view the car, bought it and off it went.

I started looking at different cars, ML350, CLS350 but that quickly got taken off the list as it’s only a 4 seater even though it has 4 doors. I think facelift CLS350 look amazing but it was a no no.

I kept an eye on E classes also and I saw this lovely E350 that looked really nice in the photos.

The interior was what made me like the car even more. It had porcelain interior, same colour interior as my S63.

It was an AMG pack car, night edition and it had a very good spec.

Mileage was low and the car had full Mercedes history and it was still under Mercedes warranty!

The downside was that the car was far away. All the way to Newcastle but I’ve gone there once before to buy a car and I thought I shouldn’t let this car go just because it’s over 5 hours drive back.

I bought two train tickets and I went with my father to see the car.

The car looked great when the owner picked us up from the train station. It had been detailed recently and ceramic coated with a 7 year protection warranty or something like that….. it looked nice that’s the main thing.

We test drove the car and we were happy with it. It’s very smooth

Car drove great on the way back and the fuel consumption is so impressive for a V6 engine.
It used about £35 worth of fuel from Newcastle to London.
Being a late facelift model, it also has the 9 speed gearbox which helps to keep the revs down on the motorway.

Anyways, I said to myself I must keep this thread short so here’s some photos

And the replacement…

Wow. Light interior AND a pano. You hit the lottery there.

I hope he’ll be happy with the longer car…..

How long will he have it before you give it the Sam effect :doh:or have you already started  :thumb:

That's really nice and easier to use (I have a coupe and does have a compromise or two in terms of practicality
Is it petrol or diesel?

Ceramic coated should 'help' with keeping it clean, but should keep your dad busy

And a light interior is lovely (with a pano aswell)
But grandkid friendly... 😱 :p

Yes, I know it's wipe clean

Another nice motor, Sam. Bet your Dad's chuffed with that. And congrats on the new baby. 🙂👍

Thank you! :)
Yeah he does like the car :)

I haven't seen another one in this spec and colour combo before

Well worth the long journey to inspect.

I did think a few times on the way there, I hope it turns out to be a good car as anything can be made to look good in photos but like you said, it was worth the journey :)

He already said he likes this more as it has more space :).

Will you adopt me? :banana::banana:

🤣

I will wash it once underneath just to get rid of the dirt that has built up over the years and maybe just paint the brakes but that's about it. The paint is in very good condition, no swirl marks and the interior is like new.

It's a diesel.
I'll be doing all the cleaning otherwise he'd take it to the local car wash where they would destroy the paint in no time! 🫣.
I did think about light interior and grandkid might not be the best mix but as I'll be the one looking after his car, I'll try and keep on top of things :)

When my kids were very small I had C43s with the white centre panels. They remained unmarked. In their later years, an E500 with Alpaca. Again, unmarked. I did have the fronts redone recently but that had nothing to do with kids; the back seat's perfect.

Seat protesters do most of the work.

I've had my C350 with Alpaca grey leather for longer than my 10 year old daughter. Not only has the car been the sole personal transport for my daughter all of her life, it's also been taxi for several of her friends. With very little in the way of cleaning effort, the interior still looks like new.

IMO, it's a fallacy that light interiors show the dirt more. In fact, it's only the black carpets that need regular cleaning.

As is the light leather interior of our X1

But it's still a gauntlet to be thrown down :D

I've never had an issue although there's a trimmer on here who says he's seen 3 year old Rangies with trashed pale leather.

I'm with you though; I hardly ever need to clean the seats but am forever hoovering the black mats and carpets. And frequently wiping down the black surfaces on the dash, door cards, etc.
