Thinking of a possible remapping

SLK 230 Convertible
Hi All
Looking for some sound advice please. I have a 1998 SLK 230 Kompressor. Mileage is 92365 , I bought it last June (2017) overall good quality. Bit of light rust bubbling on 2 wings. FSH , all relevant paperwork for everything that has been purchased over the last 20 years (bulbs, tyres exhaust, puntures repairs etc etc. I even have the original bill of sale. Anyways I’m thinking of having the car remapped but some of the quotes and figures I feel somewhat reluctant to believe in all honesty. Several remap companies have informed me of up to 230 bhp ( mine currently being 197 I think even 193. ) . Am I being naive or is this claim achievable in all honesty. Also the prices ranges from £189 to £299. Any advice or comments would be most appreciated.
Thank you all in advance.
Regards
Stewart
Any one had their car done recently what did it involve, what was the cost and where you happy with your purchase.

Sounds about right. Safe mapping will give somewhere between 20% to 30% increase in bhp so in your case 230bhp is realistic. The prices are reasonable also so go ahead if you like but it will increase it's thirst no matter what they say (depending on how you drive of course). Mapping is generally done via laptop through the OBD port ( new files or 'maps' are up-loaded to the ecu, increasing fuel pressure, air flow and boost pressure ).

I had a 130bhp Passat TDI mapped to 165 and a BMW 525d 163bhp to 200. These are typical and relatively safe increases. You can go much higher, although it becomes costlier and there's a greater risk of damage.

Best of luck,

Rob ...

She sounds like a good car. I think I would enjoy her as she is, rather than remap her. Also, I agree, 230 BHP Ssounds very very optimistic to me.

20-30% is a possibility for a turbocharged engine, but a supercharged engine is unlikely to yield anywhere near that. Changing the pulley (to increase boost) will get you closer but still nowhere near 20-30% on a supercharged engine.

Kleemann are known for tuning Mercedes and are best known for their work on supercharging. Their kit produced 225 BHP including pulley upgrade: 200/230K (M111K) Archives - Kleemann

As Bobby Dazzler quite rightly says, 20-30% is reasonable for turbo charged engines not supercharged, my mistake. Apologies for any confusion.

very best,

Rob ..
