This makes me unhappy.

Sad.. but made me smile to see the cluster requesting washer fluid top-up! :)

I wonder if it was being delivered?

Heart breaking.

Anyone any idea on costs for repair?

Would all the warranties be invalid?

Regards
John

The cost must be a lot to repair it or it wouldn't be on ebay.

Its so sad to see it like that :(

There also appears to be an M-B paper mat in the passenger footwell, too.

83 miles! What muppetry... My money is on the workshop monkey being pressed into service as a delivery driver!

Why is it sad? (on assumption that no one was hurt). It's not something that is unreplaceable.

The owner is likely to get a like for like replacement, or a full payout with gap insurance. Sure, his insurance premium will go up but that's his problem.

MB is more than happy to sell him another CLS.

Breaker gets to part out a 'new' car and make some money.

Insurance company suffered a tick bite on his elephant ar**, decides to bump up premiums, probably make more money.

The loss is the car, but then it's just another lump of metal.

About £4k for a nice job.

I thought it would be nearer £10k.

its sad because its a high quality car that would have given many years of good service, maybe even a couple of decades. Yes MB will sell the chap another, yes its replaceable but that doesn't detract from the fact that a perfectly good car, not even in the prime of its life, has been "killed". I bet the owner is gutted.

It probably wants washer fluid as the tank has been ruptured, and I suppose at 83 miles its used maybe a quarter of a tank, its (or better phrased was) a diesel.

Would a modern mercedes like this one last a couple of decades bearing in mind MB build quality in recent years? Or have I got it completely wrong?

Easily, rust is what gets most cars. Since MB (in their infinite wisdom) started galvanising their bodies I see no reason why not. I heard Olly mention a fella with a W211 E270 with 480k on the clock and else a W220 500 with 670k on the clock. Big milliage won't kill an MB either (so long as its well looked after).

There are still MK1 mondeo's on the go, thats 10 years plus. A modern day merc is a much better built car so should easily do 15 years.

Well ok, hypothetically speaking, had the delivery not made the car into a write off, would it have lasted as long as 10-15 years anyways?

All because it's been written off does not mean that it won't get put back on the road again.

Totally agree and my only concern would be the very complex electronics. Emergency Services used to be offered excellent buy back contracts.... 300,000miles or three years with a gauranteed buy back price.

80 miles on the clock but can we assume the three year warranty would be void?

I would say that the warrenty is void once it's been written off.

It's an easy repair, and a nice car, but what's the reserve set at?

Salvage is all well and good if it ends up owing far less than an similar non recorded car would, but if there's not much in it, why go for a frankenstien car?

Is anyone else wondering why the airbags didn't go off? Maybe it fell off a transporter...:D
