Has anyone any recent Indie recommendations, ideally around E4 or IG8?

Before my new-old 2002 E320 is entrusted to the wife for family duties, I want to get it checked over for fault codes and fix what's sub optimal.

I am liking OBD conceptually, on recalling the old days of Haynes diagnosis and tinkering.
A viscous circle of carbs, distributor, vacuum, condensers and rotor arms... and possibly a flaming 'Colourtune'.

A couple of friends have, one in particular who goes nowhere else. There was a fairly recent thread where a couple of members said they had used them, one praising and one not happy with the cost if I remember correctly. As it is only STAR work, it would be easy to get a quote for a coupe of hours diagnosis; you don't have to use them for work.
