I'm thinking of buying a TomTom Go unit, not for any particular reason apart from the fact that I like gadgets!!

It's around £400 and I was wondering, as I know bugger all about these, is there anything else on the market that's significantly better for around the same price.

Thanks

Col

I've had one for a while now and I cant really fault it. Does what it should very well, small and neat and easy to use. My only problem with it is the Pocket GPS speed/safety camera database download isn't that accurate but it's a third party add on and is free so can't complain too much.

Should also mention that so far 5 mates who have seen it working in my car have gone out and bought one.

I have the TomTom3 on a Pocket PC, much better if you use the PC also, and it means if you get stuck in traffic you have a gadget to play with. Comes down to what you want, but they can be eye opening. Mine found a new route to my mates house that took a fraction of the time on roads I never knew existed. You need to trust the unit whichever you buy.

I am very happy with mine. I find the speed camera database add on very accurate for the areas that I drive in with only temporary roadworks sites being missing. Got to update it every 30 days.

Can't fault the unit, and am very pleased with all aspects of its operation.

I am thinking about buying one of these gadgets as well and haven't a clue as where to mount it etc, colleagues at work were saying you need to mount the aerial on the roof or somewhere where it has a clear vision of the satellite, is this right? where is the antenna on an MB with command?
Where did you mount your antenna?
Have you hard wired it in? I don't fancy having wires trailing all over the car.
If I can think of anymore questions I will post:-)

I've had one for a while and don't really use it.

I HAD to have one even though I don't very often go on unknown roads.

I am open to offers for it, it's like brand new with box and everything else.

I would make an offer but I'm clueless on these things, you could sell me a right duffer and I'd think it was a bargain.
PM with a price and spec, I will get someone to decipher it for me and get back to you.
You can also contact me on [email protected].

Hi Pietre, I also use TomTom on my ppc, but whats this about using it on a PC? Do you mean a laptop in the car - or am I missing something?

Ian

Got TomTom 3 On PPC To HP Ipaq. Was always unsure of GPS the I saw it in action and had to buy it. Truly impressed with lots of free downloadable add ons.

with lots of free downloadable add ons.

What are your favourite add ons? I use Checkpoint and UK Postcode selector the most?

Ian

UK Postcode is the best I have used so far. I do a bit of weekend HGV driving usually on multi drop work and have found it to be faultless so far.

Found the spped camera data base to be quite accurate too

Only problem with the HGV's is you have to be carefull because it likes to throw you down weight limits or other unsuitable roads.
