morning,
Does anybody know what torque setting the axle hub nut should be tightened to on the a180cdi (W169)
I need to remove it and the driveshaft to change the lower ball joint.
Thank you very much

Hello all, sorry to resurrect this old thread but it is exactly what I need to know. Following the above method, I torqued the hub nut to 100nm and then used all of my 15 stone pulling power to crank it round a further 60 degrees. I however couldnt get it to turn anywhere near a further 60 degrees. Is that the correct method. Is this nut supposed to be replaced and the further 60 degrees travel achieved by a new nut stretching out? Thank you in advance.

Thank you in advance.

Looking at the PDF, there is only 100nM + 60 deg

Hi alec, thanks for your reply.
As I said i can't manage to turn the nut 60 degrees after 100nm has been applied so wondered if anyone knew of a final torque figure that I could work to instead? Also as mentioned, the requirement for the 60 degree turn, I wondered if this nut is supposed to be replaced each time which would allow it to stretch as it is turned 60 degrees. The nut on mine being old and therefore already stretched cant rotate the 60 degrees?

:D the breaker bar I was using was bending like a banana. Ill just give it a good howk and leave it at that :D

Always use a new axle shaft nut.

I never have a problem going the extra degrees but then I do use a massive Torque Wrench.
60 degrees is only a very small rotation so strange that if you can get to 100nM you can't get round a little more!

I tackled the other side of the car today and sure enough 100nm plus the extra 60 degrees was no problem. Maybe the OS nut has never been changed and once torqued to 100nm had no give left in it to be turned further.

What is the purpose of always using a new nut, is it down to them deforming to some degree when used?
