hi guys nice to be part of a great family first problem ive got which i could do with a bit of help with is the tow bar electrics plug on my e320 derv estate is showing a few faults after plugging in the mot test unit have been told it could be the tow module have tried to find one but i am not having any luck any ideas guys any help would be appreciated regards steve

MOT stations mostly use LED testers. These are incompatible with the canbus wiring on your car. You need to get a standard bulb type trailer board and take it to show the MOT guy.

Item 3

As Druk says a common 1 that really by now the MOT stations should be up to speed on
Buy a trailer board for a tenner then use it to hit them with once they have gave you the certificate........

This is a new one on me. I did not know towbar sockets were tested for an MOT?
I paid a lot of money last year to have towbars fitted to 2 of my vehicles (the ones likely to tow my caravan).
The Merc system cost a lot extra to have the special one programmed etc, compared to the Ford one. The Ford one beeps when indicators are working etc, and I was informed that was a legal requirement.
The Merc one said nothing. I was informed that it will display a warning in comand if a bulb is out? with the expensive reprogramming. I think I will remove a bulb from one of the towed vehicles, and see what happens.

^ It will display if you have a bulb out. Been there....tried it :thumb::D

hi thanks for that very useful info will check it out tomorrow as for the above post by dozypillock the mot can only test a 13 pin euro plug not the old 7 pin hope this helps

Not 100% sure, but I think it's only tow bars with the 13 pin socket fitted. If you have 7 pin plugs, they are not tested :dk:
