TPMS accuracy?

How accurate is the TPMS? I admit before I start that I’ve currently gone OCD over my tyre pressures, I think it’s because of the relative expense and not wanting to prematurely wear out my tyres by over or under inflation. Anyway I recently bought a good quality tyre pressure gauge that advertises to be accurate to 1.6 percent, but the car and the gauge are totally different. The car is telling me they are over inflated at nearly 38psi but the gauge only reads 32 psi. I also took the readings from the car and gauge at the same time so there was no difference in tyre temperatures. So do people rely on the cars TPMS or a pressure gauge or a filling stations inflator or never bother checking unless a tyre looks soft, which I was always guilty of prior to buying my current car.
Cheers in advance Mark.

Ignore my post I’ve just seen someone asked the same question last year which was answered .

Well, what's done can't be undone.... and you asked the question :)

So... while I'd be inclined to believe the gauge and not the TPMS sensor, what I would do is buy another gauge, can be a very cheap one, just to see if it's reading nearer the 38psi figure of the 32psi figure, which will allow you to determine which figure is erroneous one.

But do share the answer you've found? And, you're not a true car enthusiast if you're not OCD about tyre pressures... personal opinion.

Thanks for the reply, you’re probably right about comparing another reading from a second gauge. Funnily enough the thread I found the answer was answered by yourself, on the 23rd July 20. That’ll teach me to do a proper search first, before posting.
