A question for all you London/Home counties based owners.
My daughter who is married to a Dutch SF marine has, for the past few years, befriended and corresponded with a Chelsea Pensioner.
Sadly he has passed away after 99 years and she wants to attend his funeral. She has asked me for the best place to stay and to travel in from safely if she comes by car.
As I have no idea any advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Best way to get here will be via M1, A406 west bound, A40 towards london, A3220 all the way to chelsea.

Regarding stay, there are lots of "cost effective" places around but I would be very cautious. The only two places I stayed at and matched quality for price was Hilton Olympia which offers secure parking. The other is Kensington Prime. Obviously not chelsea but its a mile apart.

Parking can be difficult - kensington has lots of residence parking which is enforced until 10:30pm on weekdays! you also have the pay per hour parking spots but you must move your car every 2 hours to a differnt zone. I would just let them fine me £65 and get over with it :D
On the weekend, you can park on single red lines

I was hoping that she could stay outside London and travel in by train? I should have said that she is coming from Holland.

In that case, somewhere in Kent that's on a main commuter line is probably the best bet. Perhaps Maidstone or Chatham? Or further in, Dartford or Bexley (accommodation will likely get more expensive).

I agree but the expense is an issue.

Dont know how much the EuroTunnel is for a car + two passengers but i dont imagine that return flights from Amsterdam - Heathrow would be much more (depending on dates) plus it will be far less time consuming.

Have they priced the flights ?

I have suggested that as it makes a lot more sense.

A quick look at Skyscanner suggests that AMS-LTN is around half the price of AMS-LHR, but obviously you have to factor in the cost of the LTN / Chelsea journey too.

Edit to add: There's a regular Thameslink train service from LTN to Blackfriars so it looks viable.
