Hi everyone i am looking at buying a trickle charger i have heard of the ctex but i came across one called the maypole which seems to get good reviews so i was wondering if anyone has came across them or has got one and what there thoughts are on them i have seen these two hopefully someone may be able to help which one is best to buy IMG_1400.jpegIMG_1401.jpeg

Put it this way, walk into car dealerships and car collections and the universal standard is the CTX.

Haven’t heard of the Maypole, but no doubt it will be cheaper.

I've the top one the Maypole 7423a , several years now , they retain the last setting in the event of an interruption to the power supply unlike an Ultimate speed from Lidl and come with leads that permanently attach for a convenient connection .

And they have a very useful display which apart from various modes inc winter settings and AGM also displays Voltage whereas an expensive CTEK doesn't.

Starting voltage and resulting voltage is a very good indicator of battery health .

But the ultimate 'acid' test is , my 14 year old battery is still starting and has never failed to start .

For the price it's a no brainer .

I have had two of the Maypole 7423 for 8 years , my brother has one , my Dad had one , my two neighbours have them . No problems from any of them .
Both have my cars have the fly leads attached for quick connections
Good solid piece of kit for a great price

I have no direct experience of Maypole but they seem well regarded online and they’re inexpensive, so probably ideal for occasional use. NOCO also seem well regarded, but are at the more expensive end of the scale.

I have quite a few CTEK chargers and would recommend them. I have had two fail, but both were used long term on cars stored outside, and I suspect that has something to do with them failing.

As @MikeInWimbledon points out, car dealers and car collectors use CTEK. CTEK also manufacturer the branded units supplied with cars by the posh car manufacturers too.

My two Ctek have failed so bought the maypole (top one in the pictures). Been perfect and hasn't missed a beat, up to now. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the maypole, excellent especially for the price.

Thanks to everyone you have been very helpful

Did you return them to CTEK? They replaced the two which failed with no quibble. Worth trying if they’re not yet in the bin!

99% likely to be fine. Smart chargers have been around for a while. I have several different brands.
