Be interested to hear from a few people who have had their turbo diesels remapped. Would you say it was worth the cost? How much MPG increase and noticeable difference in performance?

And is there anyone out there who felt a remap messed their car up or created problems?

Totally love my remap, smoother gear changes, quicker changes better mpg and way more performance :)

E320 cdi

Ive remapped around four diesel cars in the past and have enjoyed the extra torque provided.

However I have also had issues with the extra torque reducing the life of components. The most notable was DMF's, clutches and inner drive shaft joints.

All I say is go in with your eyes open and dont expect parts to last as long. That way if they do your not disappointed.

i've just had my 250 remapped.

it's totally transformed the car. it's smooth through out the whole rev range, the power is instant and pulls so much better even at slower speeds.

always thought my car was a bit slow off the mark and the power was delivered properly around 70mph. since the remap the power is all the way through even from low speeds.

i would advise anyone to go for it especially as it's such a cheap way to gain more power and better mpg.

the greatest thing about a remap is the first time you put your foot down the smile says it all.

My car is now 260bhp this figure is exactly the same if you map your 220 as they are the same engine.

What colour is your CLK? I'm from Portsmouth too, would be cool to see a fellow member on the road!!

Ting, I thinkg CLK220cdi is 170bhp stock - 260 seems like a steep figure to reach with a simple stage 1 - sounds more like a stage 2....

But I'm not disputing the figures, I haven't looked into the details.

I'm no physicist so can someone please explain how you can get more performance & better mpg?

One or the other I can understand but am sceptical about getting both.

The tunners quote that as a result of higher torque, therefore lower revs & higher gears are used for normal day to day driving - so that is supposed to use less fuel.

Although I'm sure its the opposite end of the stick when you unleash the full power potential.

i was getting 54mpg before the map, now i get 60mpg brim to brim

That is seriously impressive on a 320.... both before and after figures!

thats obviously driving like a saint lol, she does dip to 40mpg now and again. i mostly use it on long trips no stop start town driving.

Mine unfortunately sees many short & cold trips & the occasional motorway run & a system clear out haha...

Just thinking to try cleaning up the system with something like millers or redex

It's black mate with the standard 5 spoke cls style AMG alloys... I also have AMG badges on the sides that were fitted by the previous owner.. Took the one off the boot, but the sides ones seem to be glued on or something so I am reluctant to remove them lol and they don't look too out of place.

I find it amazing that the 220 and 250 models have the same engine and can both achieve 260bhp?!

With remapping.. If it improves performance and economy, why didn't it come from the factory like that?

Ah cool, will give a wave if see you about...

I think you'd be looking at something like 190bhp after remap on the 220cdi - give MSL or Eurocharged a call to see what gain they quote...

Thanks, and those figures look a lot more realistic

With the 220/250 that is about wanting to put a range of engines and price points, and also it is about VED and achieving a profile that will produce the best scores on the various tests the cars are measured over. Remember the 180 is also essentially the same engine, just with a cheaper single turbo.

They also are manufacturing one engine and mapping for a variety of countries and conditions - there are guys sitting in ice boxes and ovens for days on end to find out what the limits of the car are, so some of the choices that manufacturers make are conservative. The engine may take 20% more power, but the manufacturer may be considering producing a long lived engine, who knows whether you are getting an engine whose tolerances are not as favourable as the next one. For the most part, even if you don't have a car re-chipped you simply are not going to be pushing the boundaries of performance, especially on UK roads so the design limits that the manufacturers are considering may not affect you.

Can I ask who did your remap ?
considering having my C220 done

thanks

I think it depends what you want from the remap as there's loads to choose from, I've had a dtuk box fitted, brabus d6 & now my c350 is remapped by GAD Tuning all are different prices & give different results.

Try Tdi tuning very friendly and affordable they done my van and c63 and I only can say good things about them:thumb:

Hi there just read your post on re mapping your vito. What sort of improvements have you seen from the re map as I have a new 113cdi and was thinking about having it remapped . Any advice is appreciated. Many thanks

mine is tuned for performance so the mpg didn't improve but the at low revs is more quicker than before and also at top end very fast ex:before would struggle to get 120 out of it and now reaches 130 very happy with it :thumb:
