I have a cls 350d with om642 engine. I suspect there is a leak on turbo system, and willing to find the problem myself. I am going to make a diy smoking machine and use it on the engine to detect the leaking area. I just dont know which tube or feature to connect the smoking machine. Thanks for answers.

After the air filter maybe? I remember seeing one video that they plugged the smoke machine after the air filter box

If there is a leak on the intercooler pipes, it may only become obvious at boost, so keep that in mind. Just been through this with my insignia, ended up taking the pipes off and examining to find the, very small, split.

on your insignia, did you have a check engine light turned on?

Not exactly, it would often show "service vehicle soon" which means there's a problem but not serious enough to put a light on, it would also go into limp mode for a few seconds, this led me to believe that there was a tiny split in one of the hoses. I couldn't feel the split by hand and no tell tale oil stain but once I removed the near side fog light cover I could see the split. It was bigger than I expected but hadn't gone all the way through, only to the cording, so would have lasted a little longer before failing completely.20220921_132904.jpg

on my 350 I could visibly hear the air escaping. Initially I thought it was from the inlet pipe to the turbo so i replaced the orange seal and the PCV seal too. That didn't fix it but the noise was still coming from that area. In the end it turned out to be the green seal in the turbo pipe. Quite a common by all accounts. I renewed that and the o ring on the other end and all has been good since. Worth a check.

Hello, thanks for the feedback,

Can you check this video showing the problem I am having. Did you have a similar problem? This strange sound occurs when the car is warm and when i press the gas, making the rpm over 1500.

PS, there is no check engine light, no reduced power, nothing except the annoying sound going into cabin. The sound inside the cabin is like when you are at home, and hear the storm outside making this wuuu sound on the windows, scaring the liddle kids :)

Thanks again
