Hi 2010 C Class S204 1.8 Petrol 271.820 Engine Done 105K miles. I am getting exhaust gas in the coolant (leaking head gasket). I had the timing chain done about 2.5 years ago after the chain came off and 2 valves where replaced. Upon stripping down engine yesterday I discovered that the Turbo has a water supply. I am wondering IF this is a cause of the exhaust gasses getting into the coolant. The head is still on at the moment, if this is the problem then I have no need to remove the head. Can someone please advise Thanks Martin

You need to do a coolant system pressure test.....that will soon tell you where its going.

Hi Thanks I had a good think about things, I am getting exhaust gasses in the coolant and not really losing coolant OR getting water/coolant in the oil. So it makes sense that air is being forced into the coolant by the piston. I was clutching at straws and trying NOT to remove the head. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and get the head off and hopefully the "leak" will be evident WHEN the head is off. Thank You Very Much Martin

PS when I have vacuum filled the coolant via a compressor it does hold a vacuum, so that would indicate due to the compression of the piston the air is being forced at 150/200 psi into the coolant

Hi I now have the cylinder head removed and found the issue. The 2 cylinder head bolts to the exhaust side next to cylinders 3 and 4 where NOT hyper tight and that probably was the cause of the gasses getting into the water jacket. Does any know if cylinder head bolts coming loose is an issue. The other 8 bolts where hyper tight. New bolts purchased plus new cylinder head gasket from Mercedes Crawley
