Two 'new' old Minis.

u don't know what you are missing...??!! Goodwood the Top Hat masters series amongst others.. their are many videos to see of mk1 2 and 3 Minis racing....the 1293 Bill Richards prepped engines are very good....even Crystal Palace in 69/70 with the fuel inj 8 porters.. normally aspirated and heavily modified A series engines plus 1 and a half inch twin carbs, heavily modified cylinder heads. inlet manifolds, crankshafts etc etc.... it goes on an on.. take a look at James Martins mk 1 Cooper S types.. and oh there was a very interesting show on tv with the lead singer of AC/DC who has bought one and loves it.. yes they are noisy and yes RPM,s are up to about 10 in the xtreme.. totally non standard but doable....ps my last mk2S put out about the same power to weight ratio as an old c180k I owned.. a flying brick as the Aussies call them.....foxy52

Yup, Marc Bolan found that out the hard way.

And the bumpers are so low that any kind of impact front or rear can result in significant damage to the car. Our Clubman was an insurance write off twice after fairly minor rear-end collisions ... bootlid / rear lights / etc. all stove in each time.

Good fun to drive though.
...yes I remember when MB crashed his car... about 3 miles from where I lived at the time in the 70,s..... in actual fact there was a permanent memorial in Barnes ...dunno if its still there ??! foxy52

SMO666G...great reg mark!!!
...you know !!!... Abingdon reg.. sign of the beast.. many of the Aussie landcrabs had SMO plates. I was offered 1100 for it in 2002 by a guy doing a resto on an 1800.... foxy52

.....oh and for those interested its Sandy Beige and Snowberry white to the waistrail as was the look of many original coachbuilts minis in the early mid and late 60,s.. this is a late 68mk2 S..... no comparison to a Merc.. but pure fun to drive .. not to longer distances though !!! ..even with high back recliners !!!!.....foxy52
.....I did once drove it to Fontaine-Sur -Somme....Picardy way to meet up with an old friend who drove his 1970 GT40 along with me in my "S" up to St Valery on the coast...after we came out of a restr having had lunch there must have been about 40 French guys looking at our cars !!! memories foxy52

At that money I would guess its destined for a car museum somewhere ??
...you would be surprised...most of the 30-100k Austin or Morris variant mini coopers and S types along with the coachbuilt Radfords,Hoopers and Wood and Pickett minis turn up at shows like the National Mini Cooper day in Beaulieu in Hampshire.. about 2200 minis usually turn up.. some really great examples from the 60,s...f y I about 300 or so originally built mk2 Coopers and S types still exist in the UK..i don't know how many Mk 1 or 3 cars are left .... many others were exported in knock down kit form were sent to Oz and New Zealand and South Africa..and there is a thriving mini scene there... never mind the Japs who go nuts for original minis as many were exported there in the 80,s...sad to think that so many of these cars are no longer in the UK.....for those interested take a look at the British Touring Car Championship of 69 with Gordon Spice in his Britax Downton tuned 8 port mk2 S on u-tube.. fab racing !!!! foxy52

It certainly is. My parents live in Barnes, so I'm over that way quite frequently.

56 K !!!!..Yep 56 thousand pounds for a mk 1 Morris Cooper 970 S last week... at Brooklands Car Auctions !!!... quite rare the oversquare blocks of the 970s....a few mods like larger carbs.. even so a beaut of a car... foxy52

heres a nice Mini Sprint.. a chopped version of a mk 1 Cooper S..smart colour coded wheel arches..like many of the mk 1 and 2 Coopers many have ended up in Japan.. right hand drive and narrow roads.. perfect for the inscrutable Japanese... lol foxy52

I'm no expert on Mini parts but the price for this looks incredible:

CLASSIC MINI AUSTIN/MORRIS COOPER S 1275 AEG312 WORKS ENGINE BLOCK NEW OLD STOCK | eBay

It may be rare but it looks as though it's spent the last 20 years in a ditch and will need a lot more than "being dipped" if it is to be of any use.

In the messages at the bottom someone has offered him £2k which he's politely declined !
....Staggering isn't it ??!! you can buy a really well sorted Merc any model u like for far far less than a Mint Cooper or Cooper S...970s , 1071s , or 1275s.. mk 1 thru to mk 3,s..they all start at 5 figs thru to 6 !!!! for the very best rally or coach built cars.....foxy52
