afternoon all

just switched 18 winters to 19 summers and wondering on tyre pressures

it says 38 / 42 on the petrol cap and was wondering if people run that or go a bit lower?

thanks NW

Hey buddy, from memory I'm pretty sure it's 41 front 44 rear, I did run lower pressure but found the outside edges wear faster.

I agree totally with Lee, but I'm running a wagon not a saloon or coupe as Lee may have been.

Mine are 40 all-round

Neiltodd mine is a wagon like yours so what do you run? 40 all round?

No need to change from what you used for your winter tyre set up.

Yes there is. Different tyre profile, usually smaller sidewall on summer tyres and therefore higher pressures needed.

I just follow the pressures inside the fuel filler flap.
I agree that it’s best to follow the car manufacturer’s recommended pressures, and fine tune according to wear pattern, ie if wear suggests over or under inflation.

However, providing that the tyre’s load index is the same, tyre pressure should also be the same regardless of wheel and tyre size, including the profile or sidewall height.

If the tyre load rating changes, then the tyre pressure changes. If switching to extra load (XL) tyres - when standard tyres aren’t XL - then a higher pressure is required.

If a car manufacturer recommends a different tyre pressure for a different tyre, then it will be because it has a different load index, and not due to size difference.

Extreme changes in wheel and tyre sizes may require a change to tyre pressure, for example to protect the wheel in ultra low profile applications, but not for OEM sizes.

I am just a bloke on the Internet though, so please treat the above with appropriate levels of dismissal as befits advice from blokes on the Internet 😁

I'm running a Coupe, like Steve says about tyre wear, I was running lower pressure, then it had a service 2000miles later, it then showed higher wear rates on the outside edges, the centre of the tyre was almost 1mm less wear suggesting under inflation

From petrol flap -

Up to 155mph 33/33

Up to 187mph 42/42

Stick to the flap guides, why would you not ?

40s are way to high for daily use.

Here's the cap ,so you run less for daily driving? 20210201 133703 — Postimages]

@Bobby Dazzler see the post above with the different pressures for summer tyres on 18" or 19" wheels. Both will be XL tyres and both will have a similar (high) speed rating.

In all brands of car I've ever seen you use lower tyre pressures for higher profile tyres. Therefore, I cannot agree with you.

From the above post I will stick at my first thought of 41 and 43 for moderate load

Im waiting on skd884 to see what he's running as he's mentioned 40 psi is too much for daily use 🤔
