Undocumented features....

With all this talk about features that can be "activated" (e.g. the recent thread re tyre pressure warning) it strikes me that a list could be very helpful? Maybe even made a sticky?

What propmted this was me wondering if rain sensitve wipers could be enabled on my car? (W203 May 2003) via a software mod or addition of a relay? The gubbins looks the same on my car as on one with it activated.

This could potentially be £50/£60 mod if your insurer's approved Glass fitters' are not a typical "Mr Jobsworth"... BUT finding a good/professional windscreen fitter is a challenge!!!

LOL! So it's is the windscreen that contains the technology? I'd asumed some kind of photoelectric cell at the top of the screen or something. Cunning these Germans!

All features are documented. They simply vary by

1) country and legal requirements as being present or not (netherlands alarm chirp)
2) exist as option codes (tyre warning is sold as an option)
3) exist in exclusive packages (turning lamps with BiXenon)
4) increase every year with newer software
5) may be an obscure mod that was never sold but does exist in the car (distronic)

So it really depends on the car you have .... and it has been documented on this forum as a thread started by yours truly.


The windscreen thing is something else .... it is the plastic carrier that holds the electric cells which is at times not present.

2000-2001 classics had the bracket. Is possible with installation.
2001-2003 didnt have the bracket
2003-2006 went over to the Hella "all-in-one" unit. Is possible with unit swap

Some of us who are relapsed modders have even gone to the trouble of getting 2005 fuse boxes front and rear to get the new software options in diagnostics e.g. auto folding front mirrors.

So 22 months after buying my 212 I finally figured out how to make the passenger door mirror dip when I reverse.

Sick of trying to guess how close my allows were to one of those cliff-like granite curbs that are so popular in London I manually lowered the mirror the other day then raised it again when I was done.

Imagine my surprise later that day when I selected reverse for another parallel park and - lo and behold - the mirror dropped itself automatically.

After all this time (and after all those scuffed alloys) all I had to do was move the mirror selector switch to the LH position.......DOH!

No doubt someone will be along in a minute to say that's how the mirror works on a 211.

And probably my 202's before that..........

Do you need to have a certain pack on teh car for this to work? I have a 2015 E220 SE and I can't get it do work. Ta.
