Upgrading items (adaptive lights, etc...)

Hi all,

Just switched from a C220 to an E350d (AMG line) and should have checked really on the features before I purchased it (second hand).

I'm confused over what features come in what packs and was wondering if there was an easy way to understand it (a little late now as I've already taken possession of the vehicle!).

What 'pack' do the following form part of?

- Adaptive lights (the ones that self adjust for oncoming vehicles and vehicles in front of you?). Is this the right term for them (adaptive lights)? I've also read about ILS, not sue if this is the same of something entirely different?

- Adaptive cruise control. Basically the cruise control that slows down if the vehicle in front slows down and then speeds back up again to the set speed).

- Blind spot warning. When you get alerted if there is something in your blind spot.

Also, is there a way to know exactly what features are enabled on the vehicle? The reason I ask is because when I changed insurance, they asked me if it had collision assist (would brake before you hit something) and I said no, but literally as I took it out of the dealership I nearly ran into the back of something and there was a beep warning and a weird noise from the wheels as if it was stopping itself? I've been hesitating to 'try' and hit something again to test it!

In addition to knowing what 'packs/add ons' the above mentioned items fall under, I'd like to understand, realistically, if any of them can be 'added' to my existing vehicle. Technically I know they can, but realistically, could it be done and what would be involved?

Note to self... Don't impulse buy next time and wait for the right model!

Thanks in advance.

ILS is Intelligent Light System which, if fitted, will say so in the light cluster itself. The adaptive lights you are talking about are possibly Active High-Beam Assist which raises and lowers the high beam according to traffic, this is also part of ILS. Another way to see if you have ILS is if they do their calibration when the lights switch on - up, down, left, right etc

Adaptive cruise MB call Distronic and if this is fitted to your car you will have an adjuster knob on the end of the cruise control stalk similar to the one on the wiper stalk.

Distronic is notoriously expensive to retrofit

Blind spot comes with Driving Assistance which also includes the Distronic cruise and a bit more as it steers as well. I dread to think what it would cost to retrofit ILS, Driver Assistance !

Thank you, There is a calibration process when I switch the lights on, but I haven't got Active High-Beam Assist (which is what I would like) and I'd like to apologise for the person I probably partly-blinded...

When you say 'on the light cluster', where do you mean exactly?

Thanks.

I'd still like to know what is involved.

The light cluster at the front of the car, it will be printed just behind the lens
