Stumbled across this site earlier, I’ve not used it before:

What I found interesting is that you can search cars up that have had a plate change and it will show you the new/current registration - you don’t have to pay for this :)

Out of curiosity, a couple of my older cars that I sold that disappeared from the MOT history records, shows the current plate and history of these vehicles :thumb:

Maybe of interest/use to someone out there.

Just checked this out myself, quite good. I've been looking for a free report that would give information on plate changes. Don't think it is entirely accurate though for older vehicles as it hasn't fully logged some of the plate/keeper changes around the time I owned some of my older cars. I suspect it will only go so far back. It also shows my plate as being on my previous car.

Just tried to get a report on L456GKE, my old 968 coupe, failed the robot test! If you've successfully passed the test, please put that reg in and see what it says, I've tried many times in the past to trace my coupe without success.

It’s on 8080 KO now.

MOT expired in 2020.

Thanks Will, hope it's SORN not write-off, we loved that car, bought it Nov 1998 as our main car as we were close to empty nesters so decided on 1 car just for us. Couple of years later we decided to also get an Astra Estate, which soon became our main car (45mpg compared to 25-30!) so coupe became sunny day toy until we sold her.

Edit - it is indeed SORN following a string of MoT fails, looks like whoever bought her in March 2017 has not been kind to her! Unfortunately neither the MoT database or the DVLA tax/status check gives any idea of her location.

I should think it’s stored away somewhere, either parked up in a garage or whatever.

It’s showing as SORN so not likely scrapped, and the last change of V5 was in 2017 so probably a project for someone - maybe as values pick up they’ll either get around to doing it or sell it on and someone else will :)

It has to be a good sign that the plate is still assigned to it, otherwise they’d have removed it ;)

They cant remove it without a valid MOT....or at least one that's only expired within the 6 six months. That's not had one for well over three years.

I thought it was five years?

Wonder if the CoA attached has enough info for someone to find what part of the world she appears to be in from the MoT or DVLA info :

Yes....you are correct...but only if Sorn the whole time....still needs to be able to move under its own power!

From the DVLA

The vehicle must:

  • be registered with DVLA in the UK
  • be able to move under its own power
  • be of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
  • be available for inspection - DVLA will contact you if they need to inspect your vehicle
  • have been taxed or had a SORN in place continuously for the past 5 years
  • be taxed currently or have a SORN in place - if it’s had a SORN in place for more than 5 years, it must be taxed and have an MOT certificate
If you have a historic (classic) vehicle you’ll also need a current MOT certificate, even if your vehicle is usually exempt from MOTs.

It would obviously need to be SORN as you can’t tax a car with no MOT - the DVLA have a policy now where all vehicles have to be declared either SORN or taxed, there is no ‘do nothing’ option, with the DVLA writing to and/or fining the registered keeper if you don’t tax or SORN a vehicle.

MOT ran out less than five years ago, so yes the plate can be taken off unless registered keeper has decided to deliberately not SORN the vehicle (unlikely, as it is showing as SORN currently) :thumb:

You're too unkind to her !

Yes, she hasn't had an Mot for four years, but my money is on her being garaged somewhere, admired by someone who doesn't drive any more and safeguarding that valuable 8080KO number.
