Very bad interior odour

The metal battery tray looks like this once cleaned and painted. Note indents for 3 different battery sizes, guess it's a common part for all S203 C class of the same era no matter what size battery is fitted.

That area under battery tray ,,is one area that water just loves to sit until the car is moved . So a good coat of waxoyl is the best thing to put down in there .Or any type of wax shield to keep damp out . If the car is nice and clean paint it with clear inhibitor it would look nice .

What paint did you use Pete? Looks new. I need will need to check and spray mines.

Care you sure the smell is coming from the AC.
My son had a CLK and it was a bit miffy on the inside.
I removed the drivers side carpet (after removing the throttle pedal) and gave it a power wash. It was the filthiest carpet I’ve ever seen and took a good 20 minutes with the power wash to remove the dirt. I also power washed the engine bay and scuttle area making sure all the drain were clear.

it was a can of Ambersil satin followed by a few coats of Rust-Oleum crystal clear , clear top. Not specific for this job , just a few part used cans I had lying around. TBH I would have painted it pink - just to keep the rust off - if thats the only colour I could find in my workshop. no one is ever going to see it ! :p
