Very Nice W201 2.6 Sportline

Very nice looking car. I know someone who bought a w201 from mstv and they were impressed by this specialist dealer. Not perfect "concours" cars but very good examples.

I wonder if this one being a sportline has the hump in the boot floor for the wider sportline spare wheel.

Lovely car, you get the impression that the seller is good at what they do also. So many of these so called specialist dealers do little more than polish the shiny bits.

Yes they do, same as the 16-valve models :thumb:

This section deals with several questions I would have raised.
MTSV Terms of Sale
In terms of price, its "all the money" - nothing wrong with that - it looks a clean car--but it puts it potentially into a depreciating asset category if any new owner puts appreciable miles on it----the implication being its a second /occasional use/weekend/show car and might rule it out as a classic daily driver purchase??
ps and why no engine compartment photos- - instead of yet another rear quarter shot-how much effort is involved in lifting the bonnet while in photo mode, because it's pretty much essential for any distance purchaser?

HOW MUCH!?!?!?

I'd expect the full Sportline package at that price, indeed at half that price.

Yeah I said it was pricey, that said you don’t see many decent looking 2.6’s coming up at half that price.

There is no doubt that it is expensive but w201's are very usable cars even today so for me it would be a daily driver and as such running costs would be cheap compared with a modern car.

For that price though i would expect important things such as front lower ball joints, rear suspension links, all suspension bushes and even a new timing chain to have been carried out to future proof it.

Even though i love my 190d i have to say though if you have never sat in one they are tiny inside which some may not find ideal.

It won’t need a timing chain, certainly not on a 79k mile M103.

W201 prices have really started to climb in recent years. I sold one of mine a few months back, even compared to what they were worth five years back they’ve doubled/tripled in value.

Running costs on these are now offset by zero depreciation and in most cases they should appreciate in value by more than what you spend on maintenance.

The absolute #1 issue on these is corrosion. All of the mechanical stuff by comparison is cheap and easy to sort out :)

I paid less than £700 for my 1991 190d 2.5 with full history in 2011. Wonder what that is worth now?

The 190e 2.3/2.5-16 models rot for fun under the fatory bodykit.

Great cars though and feel very solid on the road. The baby s class.

Depending on the mileage/spec/condition your 190D would probably be worth a few times what you paid for it, although I don’t see the diesels being quite as desirable in the modern-classic sense like a 16v or 2.6 etc.

You’re right about the bodykit though and corrosion. It’s one of the reasons why values are now so high - very few about and a few years ago these cars weren’t worth an awful lot, hence many got scrapped due to rust.

Fast forward to today - they have aged nicely, nostalgia is kicking in and with a limited supply and increased demand prices have started to adjust accordingly.

If I could buy back any of the ones I had over the years for what I paid for them at the time I would be very pleased! :)

That was my favourite one - sub-100k miler 2.5-16 manual with full MB history, and was tight as a drum. I remember the last service receipt for that was almost £4k back in 2004, all new brake lines and self levelling pipes, diff seals, suspension arms etc. Open-cheque style at the main dealer - don’t often find them looked after like that :)

Taken at one of the early GTGs over at MB World, Brooklands - @BTB 500 SL next to it

Must have been a while ago, as there’s an approved used 163 ML outside MB’s building too. Happy days :thumb:

That's gorgeous

At the time , i preferred the M3...but now i think i prefer these...

I know i am biased but w201's are great looking cars so it's about time they were worth a few quid. So many great details in the design they look almost delicate compared with the bulk of modern cars.

One of the best modern cars ever made imho. Just wish they had made an estate version.

I think the only real downside of the W201 is that they’re a bit small, which has its own advantages of course.

But I guess the target market of the W201 didn’t really need/want an estate in general and those who did probably appreciated the extra room of a 124 wagon

Mark loves his Mercedes, especially 190s. That one is an outstanding machine with incredibly low miles and a perfect spec. Not cheap, but outstanding value compared to what else is available for the same money.
