VIN decode request

I'm only asking because the Ukrainian CARInfo site is playing up, but I did get a result on one attempt, and according to that the car supposedly has: "044 Telematics NTG2.5". I was under the impression that COMAND NTG 2.5 was only fitted to the very last of the W211s, but this one is an 804 build from 2003.

Could somebody please oblige? The VIN is: WDB2112702A450760.

That leaves the NTG 2.5. Is it possible that a previous owner has had an NTG 2.5 unit fitted by MB and the datacard has been updated by them?

It's a slightly odd specification; why not leather, yet the sunroof and AMG wheel option, on one of these? I was pleased to discover it has the seven-speed box, though; I thought all the early W211s had the 722.6.

I though the same about the gearbox??

and yes it could have had the newer Comand retrofitted if done so by an approved installer I believe they can update the datacard?

Comand Online retrofitted COMAND NTG2.5 to my W203 and COMAND NTG4.7 to my W204.

Richard updated the Datacard for the W204 with the NTG4.7 as it is needed for when requesting PIN for new maps update.

So yes it can be done, though I am not sure there's a need to update NTG2.5 (as the maps update do not require a PIN).

So does the car actually has COMAND NTG2.5? If so then you are correct that it must be a retrofit, because COMAND NTG2.5 came out around 2009, so unlikely to have been factory-fitted to a 2003 car.

Also, EPC is showing your car as fitted with Audio 20. So if it now has any form of COMAND, it is most likely a retrofit.

An even odder specification; an E500 with AMG wheels and sunroof, but no leather and the cheapest head unit.

Audio 20 is not on the datacard, so I can only assume it now has an NTG2.5 COMAND. The owner thinks it's an aftermarket head unit, though, so if so, it must have been changed again. I'll find out tomorrow.

I’ve looked at the advert on eBay and it’s an aftermarket head unit made to look OEM.

All W211 Avantgardes came with half leather as standard, full leather was a cost option.

The 7G box was fitted to all W211 E500’s.

Also worth pointing out that the half wooden steering wheel it has fitted is a rare option to find, I had it on a W211 E320 and I loved it.

Thank you for that; I've come to that conclusion too. I wonder what make? Touch wood it's not an Android OS; I have an iPhone. Or will that not make any difference?

I also wonder why the NTG2.5 was replaced; I'm very happy with mine in the E320.

Also worth pointing out that the half wooden steering wheel it has fitted is a rare option to find, I had it on a W211 E320 and I loved it.

All mine have had full leather, and on an E500 I'm surprised full leather wasn't specified, but I like the interior colour, and like you, I like that wheel too.

I’m in the minority that actually prefers a fabric interior!

I can see why they’d not specify heated seats with the half and half though, what does puzzle me is people who specify full leather and not heated, it’s freezing in winter without it.

Also worth checking how they’ve fixed those roof sliders on, hopefully they’re just stuck on and not drilled.

I hadn't spotted that the seats were unheated, but I can live with that. The roof sliders appear to be stuck on, but either way, I'll let sleeping dogs lie unless either they create noise at speed, or they start to let go.

I'm pretty sure the head unit is a Dynavin, and apparently the previous owner fitted that because he wanted to use various extra gadgets in the car. Are Dynavin any good? The COMAND NTG2.5 head unit is still with the car, though, and I'm used to that one, so if I can't get on with the aftermarket one, a trip to Comand Online will be required.

I'm picking it up tomorrow. (I hope...). Wish me luck; I'm pretty sure both that it's a good 'un, and that the seller is dead straight too, but you never know...

Well, not quite what I expected. The 'old' head unit with the car is the original APS 20 radio/CD player! The car is a good one, though, and so is the seller. In fact, I think it's the nicest of all my W211s to drive, and that includes the E55s. Definitely .

New thread possibly coming in the Electronics forum regarding the aftermarket head unit, but so far so good.

I like the A6 well enough, to drive, but the fascia is very crowded with controls; I wouldn't swap it for my old lady's sofa. Even my son has said that everything is fiddly, as opposed to his previous Jaguar XF, which was straightforward to operate. It's inevitable, I suppose; as more and more complicated electronic toys/gimmicks are added, more and more control functions are needed to operate them.

I spoke to Richard at COMAND online. He told me that "044 NEW TELEMATICS GENERATION NTG 2.5" does not mean that the car was retrofitted with with an NTF2.5 unit; all it means is that during the production run the NTG2.5 system became available as an option.
