Hi everyone,
When you keep playing with fire by buying questionable vehicles, sooner or later you're bound to get burned…
I recently picked up a 2004 Vito 115CDI, 6-seater, with 260,000 km a bit below market value. It came with at least one known issue: all four injectors were leaking.
After fully refurbishing the injectors and restoring a proper seal, the van still smokes under acceleration.
Just to be sure, I ran a compression test, both cold and hot. Three cylinders are showing 26 bar, but cylinder no. 3 is only at 10 bar.
As far as I know, diesel ignites from around 20 bar, so in theory I should be running on just three cylinders. But that doesn’t seem to be the case — it starts perfectly, winter or summer, and drives fairly well.
I’m going to recheck the oil consumption, but it does seem to be burning a bit. I also had to replace the dipstick seal to stop it from popping out.
Next step: pulling the engine to inspect the top end. I suspect a holed piston caused by a faulty injector. What do you think?
Souhaites-tu une version plus formelle ou plus technique selon le public visé (ex. forum pro, garagistes, amateurs) ?
