Hi, I'm new here.

I drive a W639 59-reg Mercedes Vito Taxi 111CDI.

Yesterday, I broke down, I was driving along very slowly, the engine suddenly started shuddering/jerking and then it died. The engine light came on. I tried restarting it, and it would start, but then die immediately.

I had it recovered to my local garage and they informed me all four of my fuel injectors need replacing and the bill would be close to £2000. Obviously, this was an utter and complete shock.

Is it possible for all four injectors to fail like this? Can't they be repaired or cleaned?

There's a bit of history here that I should mention. The vehicle's covered 178000 miles. It's used as a London black cab. I bought it from a dealer last October with 163000 miles on it. Apparently it's had full service history.

About couple of months ago, even though it was running absolutely fine, out of curiosity, I connected my bluetooth OBDII reader to see if there were any error codes. There were. P0261, P0264, P0267 and P0270, all of them Injector Circuit Low for each of the four cylinders. I looked up what info I could find on the internet, but wasn't able to find anything definitive, but some talk about contaminated fuel, and stuff like that. However, my engine ran absolutely fine, and I thought I should get it checked at some point, but never got round to it (which clearly I should've) until this happened yesterday.

I'm worried that basically they've plugged it into their diagnostic equipment, got the same codes as me, and just decided to tell me I need to replace all injectors (at what seems a huge profit to them), rather than potentially diagnosing them individually, or even more imporantly, trying to figure it if it's something else that's caused the issue with the injectors. Which, if that's the case, would likely cause a similar issue some time down the line, even if I were to have them all replaced now.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Have you tried running some injector/fuel system cleaner through it?

Hi, I think they've done this, but they're still saying the injectors need replacing. Apparently, they're shorting out, or staying open, something like that.

It just occurred to me perhaps you're asking if I've tried putting some injector/fuel cleaner in the tank prior to braking down, and the answer is that I unfortunately didn't. I actually meant to buy some and do this, but never got round to it. :(
