I'am in "Gotta get a car" mode..looking at off loading my XK.(KEEPING THE CLK,,The missus actually likes it).
Has anyone driven/owned the VW PHAETON..they have Price dropped imensly..and I know the VW badge is sorta naff..but looking at spec/top gear review etc..it seems a lot of motor for the money..especially the 3/4 years 30/40k on clock market..Any opinions wellcome..
(I don't buy new motors..I get the "humm...That looks a nice motor...lets google onto autotrader/ebay motors" inkling to often)

Never driven one but a lot of car for the money. as you mention prices have fallen immensely. if you can live with the badge go for it (personally i like them)

I think they were one described as a mini four door bentley.
They do not appeal to me from the outside but they do have a lot of kit.

yes high depreciation means you can get a very good high spec car for peanuts. however also expect peanuts when you sell it ;)

appears to be excellent cars so i would say go for it, but also check out what the money gets you elsewhere.....

Birdman has one, try sending him a pm, see what he thinks.

I agree..also been looking at cl's and db7's,,massers,,,you name it..i've had a butchers.

Very attractive to those who know how stupid badge snobbery can be, but I would go for one of the basic engines and avoid 4-Motion and other complications that could make maintenance and repair bills eye watering. You would then enjoy all the benefits of the chassis and build quality without the more expensive liabilities.

They are nice cars, and they do seem to go on forever. A friend of mine has one that has done 174,000 miles and he has had it since new. No major problems to report either!

I'd love one, but I'd go for the 6 litre one, if a left field choice, so you might as well go the whole distance and get the bonkers one. It also has virtually all the optional kit, standard....

5litre V10 diesel would be my choice

Normally I'd go for it, but I heard it did give trouble in the Toureg and numerous engines were replaced.

They are extremely rare cars, and not all VW dealerhips are able to service the Pheaton  but as a design its actually a really nice solid looking big car. I can't help but think that if it were badged an Audi, BMW, Merc, even as a junioir Bentley they would have sold many more.

They could have badged it a Skoda though, they do a superb, so why not a Skoda Supreme :bannana:

I really like the Phaeton, and have considered the 6.0 W12 in the past too.

They are a bit thin on the ground...

This car is already available badged as a junior Bentley under the name "Flying Spur";) .

Seriously, the Flying Spur is now (or is soon to be) made in the Phaeton factory in Germany, plus the whole Bentley GT range has proved to be very reliable so the Phaeton should be a very safe bet. I would get one if there was an estate version.
