Have my car (220) in at a local MB specialist for a service, just spoke to the chap and he's informed me the car needs new disks and pads all round a new fuel filter and front coil spring (will replace the two), he's calling me back with a price...what do you reckon?

when you get a price let us know, may be able to reduce your costs depending where you live

Hi Ian,

Appreciate the offer but i'm in Glasgow mate. Just spoke to the garage and breakdown is as follows: (inclusive of VAT and fit)

90,000 mile service: £155
Front pads and disks: £147
Rear pads and disks: £160
Front Springs: £168.94
Fuel Filter: £50.31
Total: £681.25

How does that sound?

Didnt think it was too bad but would like to hear what you guys think.

I would check the pads/discs yourself or get a local indy to have a look to make sure the work is really required. Either that or make them give you the parts they take off to check the work is really required.

Good point - was getting two new back tyres fitted last weekend so had a look at the pads and disks when the guy had the wheels off and the did look on their last legs. Ive used this Indy place before and they've always been pretty good.

How good are you at the auto DIY ? Replaced the front disks and pads on my old C200 with components from Euro Car Parts, front discs (ventilated) about £36/pair and pads about £20/set. Job took me about 1.5 hrs

£50 for a fuel filter!?!??!?

As for the rest, the parts don't seem that expensive but you can just go to Eurocarparts and order similar items from there for a lot less money.

Fitment is easy, you only need a few simple tools.

Whats wrong with the spring? I presume its broken at the end?

Another thing, can you feel any pulsing in the brakes when you're stopping? Don't worry about the corrosion around the edges of the discs, thats meaningless. Its the surface you need to worry about.

Not bad at DIY, its more with getting the time to do it, i'm up to my neck in work at the moment.

shame you are in Glasgow. I could have done that job for you minus springs for £300 (all parts inc G/Box oil and filter)

£300? At that price you're on less than a McDonalds employee!

It did cross my mind ;) Just down to time though, if I had a bit more time i'd do the discs and pads myself. Not to worry, have bit the bullet and gave the go ahead for the work to be done.
