Hi I've found a brand new Diff that is ABS 1.2.88 and mine is ABS 1.2.87 .
Can anybody tell me if this new one would be o.k for mine ?
Thanks
Hi forgot to say mine is the 24 Valve model

Not sure about the way you have shown these designations but I think the numbers are the ratio.
1 to 2.88
1 to 2.87

You really won't notice the difference, so as long as the fittings are the same they should work ok.

The 1: 2.87 ratio runs right the way through the E300 range and even into 320 CDi cars and 250 TD.

I would disagree and suspect it's a model number. I'm not sure you could have a ratio differ by 0.0035% without having a huge CWP with millions of teeth...

I'd think one is a revision of the other. Whether it will work is moot but I'd say it's close enough to make me want to try it

I thought that initially but MB change both the crown wheel and pinnion to obtain different ratios, so a change of both can give only slightly different ratios.
My concern would be more that the different diffd are for different torque ratings and one might self destruct if given too much torque to handle.

The best check would be to pull the backplate off and check the stamping on the crown wheel and count the teeth.
