my younger brother is looking to prchase his next car after selling his 1999 honda accord v-tec. he is considering either a w124 300e-24v or 320e but wants to know which car is more rapid as he is quite heavy footed on the gas. trust me ive seen him race alot of 3 series beamers and on many occasions left them behind with that v-tech engine. i have read that the 24v 3.0 engine gives out 231bhp in non cat form and 220bhp with cat but also that it is not a well designed engine with not much omphh at low revs and very noisy at high revs. on the other hand i have read that the 3.2 engine gives out 220bhp and is a better all rounder except for the fact that the wiring loom is a common problem on these engines and quite costly to fix. any opinions on what would be a better prospect with regards to power and reliability?

VTEC Man

If he's a VTEC man he needs a 300-24 valve. If he likes torque he needs a 320. There's no substitute for test drives...

I sold a 5-speed auto 300-24 valve estate a while ago. Now that was fun!

PS he'd probably like Sportline suspension too
