Hello all. I'm sure this isn't the first post to be headed W124 front callipers! I've looked through and found old posts and I guess things change on the supply side hence my seeking current advice...
I've recently become the owner of a very badly neglected and rusty 1986 W124 250TD estate, she's a lovely old girl, the previous owner must have been Fred Flintstone as nothing was holding the front carpets up. I'm on a tight budget and looking around her the front callipers although working are very badly corroded so there's not a hope of bleeding the brakes through. My local factor cannot source callipers, a chap stopped by and was sure that W201 callipers will fit. I don't know! I'd like to keep the old gal going as long as I can but on a budget as in truth she's beyond economic repair. The discs are not worn but there is some juddering when braking. Might anyone have a serviceable pair I can buy or know what will be a good low budget replacement and where I can get them? Thank you!

I use this site with help of my vin number . 7 ZAP crr014258/* to find the right parts . But if you have problems you should find make and number on old calipers this might help if you can read it DSC06164.JPG

Many many thanks for taking the time and trouble to send those Sir! I'll sit down with a large brew and see if I see what I need... and then... if available! Oh and... the previous owner kept the car 100 yards from the seafront for many years... not a hope of discerning and casting numbers alas and I really dare not touch the bleed nipples :-0

Sorry to be depressing but I'm not sure the above are compatible.

No problem Ray, when I first lifted the sodden carpets on this old girl and saw the ground, and then the fully floating throttle pedal... now that was depressing...a few sheets of parts numbers - nothing by comparison really. I appreciate your interest, thank you both! :)

Why Ray, it said that all models are there ..so if you know otherwise Ray then let oldmerc know ..
I was referring to these things being incompatible:

"very badly neglected and rusty, I'm on a tight budget. ... I'd like to keep the old gal going"

Well... through necessity this geriatric pauper can weld so saved a fair bit by so doing. Trying to be a Greenie I believe that it's better to repair than replace a vehicle wherever possible... I don't care what the car looks like as long as I can keep it safe and fit for the road for as long as I can. I'm not familiar with the spares situation for these old girls and am aware that MB also stands for Mega Bucks... it's knowing where to spend my savings to get the parts required that's the problem. Not many options here on the Isle of Man!

I'm certainly with you on that. I had my 300CE completely overhauled for another 25 years' service for exactly that reason.

Good luck whatever route you choose.

Thank you. I'll be happy to get another 25 months out of the car as I really can't visualise still being above ground in another 25 years!
