I am in the process of sourcing and buying a W124 which like as not might have an aftermarket alarm but NO immobiliser.

Most of today's immobilisers seem to be electronic BUT I would like a good old mechanical key one attached to a valve in the fuel line, preferably accessible from sitting in the driver's seat :D . I used to have one of these in a pug 404 saloon I used in Nigeria. The logic being that aftermarket stuff is an accident waiting to happen, but the only problem with a key is losing it ;) .

So - can such a thing be purchased nowadays and does anyone have one fitted or can recommend people who can do this?

Regards

Les

I made up a very simple imobiliser on one of my cars which was very effective.

Basically, I used the arial feed to trigger a relay which worked as a switch on the low tension feed to the ignition coil.

Without the face plate of the head unit in place, there would be no feed to the relay and hence no feed to the coil. Just make sure you don't leave the stereo face in the car and no-one is going to figure out how to start the car in a hurry.

In many ways, the above is more secure than a fitted imobiliser since its something the potential thieves havn't learnt to disarm in prison/school.

If your car has the standard dealer fitted aftermarket alarm -scorpion?? it may well have a twin relay immobiliser unit fitted. The alarm is armed via the remote door locking system. Drivers door lock will have a led rather than a keyhole. Its very effective as I found when my remote key failed!!!!

You can buy key operated fluid valves. These were sometimes used on older diesel cars.
Either a hydraulic or diesel specialist may well be able to help here.
