W124 with jerk when P to D

My 230E sedan tend to give a jerk when shifting from P to D or P to R. My 230TE doesn't have this problem.

Due to this jerk, the engine will stall at idle when I shift to D or R, air con switched on and steering being turned(either left or right), simultaneously. In short, the engine is loaded during idling

I am not sure if it is a cable adjustment or something else.

Thanks for help.

TQ

Idle speeds could be the answer, early cars had a Idle relay that increased the RPM by 50 when in D or the aircon turned on. If the idle is too high it can cause the car to jerk

Hello.....i had a 124 estate which when put from P to D or P to R it was jerky as it was then auto box changed up through the gears. The garage sorted it and it was the vacuum hoses on the auto box.

Not sure if this is any help but it sounded similar to my old car

How can the idle speed be reduced to get a smooth shift to D?

Thanks.

Only 230E cars without a rotary idle valve can be adjusted by the large screw infront and between the block and throttlebody housing.

If you have the one with the roary idle valve then maybe the air flow plate is drity and stopping the plate from closing, a good clean up could help and the top comes off the ass quite easy. Do not turn any screws and handle the mooving plate with care

Thanks TV..will try that and see if the situation improve
