W126 sunroof problems

Hi, I have a friend with a 1989 W125 500SEL and the sunroof has just stopped working. You can still hear the motor spinning but the sunroof doesent move. Any ideas?

Maybe siezed control cables from the motor to the roof and its stripped the motor gear.
