So I am just gently thinking about another car to tide me over whilst the G Wagen goes in for paint. (man maths strikes again!).

I have always hankered after a W126 in one shape or form (an sec would be superb but needing to get a dog in I think precludes it).

So I guess it is mainly rust? Is it under the parcel shelf like I have heard for secs? Anywhere else I should look? As most have interstellar mileages I guess the drivetrain is pretty bulletproof but any obvious signs I should be wary of?

What I am expecting (not been in one since a classmate's dad used to take us to school on Sundays so my memory may be off) is a pillowy wafty thing that does pick its skirts up when asked but hides its progress with surprising quiet.

Feedback much appreciated.

Suspension bushes perish, ball joints worn out, broken springs, oil leaks

w126

Had a few of these over the years, later one's 86- check behind the cladding lower half of the body for rust, (jacking points)

Upper front drag links where they pass through the body,
Corrosion along the tops of the doors by the weather strips
Noisy/leaking diff
Jacking pads
Worn steering box's
Hesitation selecting gear's slow up change to.
Cam chain's to especially on the 420 engine.
Rust around the rear above the chrome bumpers and wheel arches.
Drivers seat can sage abit to the right to.

Great car built extremely well and dont age imho
