Hi

I had an accident with front end damage over a year ago..i had the car repaired and have driving it for 2 weeks when i noticed the electrics seem to trip for a split second, which caused the dash to illuminate all the faults...the speedometer stopped working, the RPM stopped working and had to drive without any of this working..

The dash is always showing airbag faults for both sides..(only steering airbag has been repaired)

I have read that if i disconnect the battery for 30 mins that the system will do a hard reset.. the faults disappeared for like a few days and seem like it resolved the issue until it flickered again, this time whilst the car was in a stop/start position...

Any suggestions what i should do to get rid of this or why the electrics flicker???

It might be a bad earth connection, a chassis bolt not tight enough. Check battery terminals and all the earth points you can find. Could also be a damaged can wire so give the wiring loom at the front a gentle tug around any points near the accident damage and get someone to see if the you get the dash flickering etc.

Welcome aboard it does sound like either a dodgy earth or a wire not making for a moment,as already posted check things out, hopefully it will be a earth and so a simple fix ,fault finding a damaged wire ,is a whole lot harder.

Cheers for your reply

Im now getting a auxillary battery malfuntion so booked an app at halfords to check both..hopefully both can be replaced if thats what the issue is...the mechanic did say the 1st step is to check the life of the battery and see if any coils are disturbed etc..hopefully its just the battery that needs replacing

Ok

Having made the trip down to halfords for a battery health check, they suggested to replace the main battery as it showed the following:

Rating: 700 EN1
Measuered : 463 EN1
Volts: 12.23 V
Int. R: 4.44 mOhm
Life: 50 percent

The guy did say it could he pulling more power from the auxillary battery causing the electronics to trip but to replace the main battery first and see how i get on...

Hi, not like me to agree with Halfrauds, but he may well be right, there are far too many faults for it to be an earth, though I'd check just in case. :)

Thats what i thort as well..so battery will be replaced 2moro and programmed 2moro as well...(as its a stop start battery)..so hopefully this resolves the electric issues 🙏

Ok battery has been replaced but still getting the sat nav flickering on and off, but eventually stays on..the stop start feature stops working and sometimes the hold function is disabled when breaking on a hill...

The alternator has been checked is completely fine, new battery installed and programmed by halfords...any more suggestions ???

Im thinking the auxillary battery may need replacing but not sure...

Thank you

Have you had the error codes read?

Have you had the error codes read?
These are the error codes that were up prior to being reset..

P0620
U0155
U0101
U0103
P0562
P13A6
P0692
P0560

They have been reset before i got the battery changed....at the moment no codes are currently showing on the dash other than airbag ones that popped during my accident...the steering wheel airbag has been replaced only...

Hope the above will help shed some light 🙏

Were these codes read using STAR? If the only codes left are related to the airbags why were these no replaced? Maybe the collision sensors associated with those areas need checking or replacing?
Obviously the repair centre should be responsible for returning the car to it's pre crash condition but that boat may have sailed depending on time scales

You may well do yourself a favour by taking your car to your local indie garage (rather than Halfords) who will have the correct diagnosis tools & knowledge to help you overcome the electrical problems that you car is showing, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is why didn't the repair garage check your car before returning it to you.

As mentioned find a good local mb specialist who has an up to date star diagnostic machine..

Ok so i accidently left stop start on whilst driving and when the vehicle was stationary, the electrics flickered off, had to turn the key off and then on to get the engine started and den came back all the faults on the dash again!!!

Get the auxillary battery malfuntion pop up as well which will be replaced today...hopefully this is the reason why the electrics trip only when using stop start function...from what i gathered..

Alternator was tested and was told it was fine by halfords engineer...any other suggestions??

Thank you

Ok resolved!!!!!!!

Aux batt was replaced and got the codes all cleared!! The electrics dont trip on stop start and everything is in working order!!!!!!

Been over a week now and not had no issues anymore as stated earlier!!!

Aux batt was purchased through dealers and worked a charm!!!!
