w202 gurus

Why not just ask the question and see what answers you get...

i already have but got no replys ive been offered a complete set of white clocks out of a 97 sport ive got a 97c200 i know the clocks will fit but im wondering if there is a difference between the sport and the c200 ie speedo or tacho

The "sport" name is just a model designation for sportier suspension and a few trim bits inside, the electrical and mechanical bit are the same for all W202, C200 cars.

If you don't get an answer to your original thread then "bump" it so that it rises to the top of the page...where a "guru" might see it. Not all gurus are on all day, so sometimes a bump (literally posting the word bump) can be useful.

I am not one such guru, so don't know the answer. You are not being ignored, but it is pointless if we all post merely to say "I don't know".

Having now found you original question buried in another thread, it appears you want to transpose the dials from a C240 or 280 into your car, even though you don't actually say that.

can i pick your brains please ive been offered a set of white clocks complete with binacle from a 97 w202 sport will they fit into a 97 c200 and will i have to make any changes or mods and if they are from a 6 cylinder will it make any diff fitting to a 4 cylinder
many thanks in advance

Being a pre-CAN car it "should" still work, but the rev counter will be for six cylinders, not four and the speedo may read a higher maximum figure.

Hi,
As 1997 model W202 could of been either prefacelift or a facelift I would make sure of this, if unknown look at the warning lights of both clusters make sure the donor cluster has got everything that your cluster has, and that the plugs on the back of The clusters are the same.
As there both from 4 cylinder vehicles the rpm clock will work the speedo will also be ok as the speed signal is also compatible.

im not sure what engine the sport clocks are from thats why im asking i dont want to buy them if they are not compatable

If they are effectively the same car then the instrument panel will swap over and fit physically. It will need mileage correction (i.e. your dealership or an independent mechanic will need to put your old mileage onto your new cluster) using Star. If it is from a car with a bigger engine it may not read the speed correctly so be aware of this before you attempt it.

HI
I don,t believe the speedo will be an issue, it will the rev counter, you will need to confirm that the donor cluster comes from a 4 cylinder car like yours. (sorry misread your original post regarding where the new clocks had come from).

Also please bear in mind that you can just swap the actual dials over leaving all the internal parts of the clusters intact.

How fiddly is that? I'd be interested in doing this for my pre-facelift cluster using the dials from a Sport Model C180 so everything remains the same. I'm concerned that the needles or the dial faces may break during removal.

Very early clusters 94 & 95 clusters are different as they have digital display as part of the dial where as later ones dont so it wont be a straight swap.
