hello guys, wondering if anyone can help diagnose whats wrong with my car.
its a c180 auto..basically when in drive but not moving with my foot on the break its ticks over normally around 500 revs but as soon as i try put it into park or neutral its revs right up to around 1500/2000...anyone know what this could be?

I would check that the throttle cable is not too tight or that the return spring is not broken as it may be just pulling the throttle off of the idle stop.

thanks mate, ive notice that when it revs in park if i notch it down to drive then right back up to park...after a few times it sometimes sits normally in park without the excessive revving?

If I understand it correctly the idle control sets the minimum idle speed so if you put any load on the engine, drive, alternator, aircon etc it ensures that the engine will not stall, which in your case indicates that if there is no load there is something that makes the engine rev, therefore, check the throttle linkage first ..... I have had this before and MB did not find it. Good luck
