Hi I am going to look at a 1997 w202 this morning have done a deal for £500 it's a 1997 c260
Done 46000 miles one owner from new but has rust on arches should this put me off buying any advice on what else to look for would be appreciated

I owner 1997 W202 C240 or C280 probably as they didn't make a C260 is a rare find IMO... if its original, £500 is money well spent

Thought so badge on boot says c260 is on private plate at moment that has 260 on the plate going to see it and get more info

For that mileage and price you can’t really argue can you, and I doubt you’ll find another one at that price with that sort of mileage.

I wouldn’t worry about the arches as that is really just cosmetic and as long as there’s no structural corrosion on the other parts of the car it should be fine. If what you want to use it for is a reliable commute it is a great car.

Although that rust on the arches will only get worse and the only real way to fix it would be to properly repair/repaint them or replace with new ones.

You can also check out all the MOT history online which can tell you a lot about a car if your not already aware of it.

I always do before going to see a car. You can see what it needed done and what it might need next if it had any advisories previously and somewhat tell how well it was maintained. Also very importantly check for any mileage discrepancy and make sure it wasn’t on 100k miles or something on the previous MOTs.

I bought a one-owner full-service-history 1999 c240 a year ago for £500. Since then: new control arms, steering idler, brake pipes, diff seals, condenser, transmission fluid pipe, crank pulley and a few other things. Lesson: get someone to check out the underside.
