W203 C180 Tailgate Problem

Hi All,
Our 2004 C180 has the lower plastic window all fogged up (similar to how headlights go). Wondering if headlight lens polish will get it clear again ?

Picture is not our car, but just to show where the problem is.

I doubt you would make it worse if you tried it, but I think I would start with a dose of Meguires glass cleaner, and it could be on the inside.
