Anyone know of a site containing exploded views of W203 front suspension assembly ? My 02 C270CDi Estate has developed a nasty knock from the drivers front when turning right, also a bit of a shimmy at about 1/3 lock at 50mph ish,had wheels balanced.
Feel/vib through the car def eminates from passenger side only. It feels a bit like ball joints. car has always felt a bit 'crashy' at the front over speed humps & dropkerbs. Now has 113,000miles (40,000 my miles ) so expecting a bit of wear & tear by now.
Cheers,
Goody.

Just sold my Z3,,,never ever be tempted by the smaller ones !

The thrust arm bushes ar probably shot. They are the at the end of the aluminuim arms and can be seen when the steering is on full lock and looked at underneath. Look for big splits in a large round bush. lol

Roll bar kinks are common too.

I think the new method of arm control is absolute pants. The bushes are put under immense strain when turning due to there being two ball joints supporting the bottom of the hub carrier.

Who-ever thought that having two arms on two seperate pivots was a good idea has to be nuts.
It MAY offer theoretically better wheel control on turns (though judging by the number of tyres worn on W203 i doubt it), but it just wears out like mad.

The new bushes (modified, replacement) are better.

Have you ever takes one apart?

They are full of an oily substance and plasic balls. Strange design first seen on the 220 then the 203, 171, 209, 230.

I replaced a set on a 23,000mile SL the other day that were clonking terribly. I agree, a poor design.
