Hello there guys, I have been snooping on the forums for a while to diagnose a noise issue i have with me c180k 2004 avantgarde. It has a very unusual and loud idle whine that gets worse / better with higher RPMS.

Here is a Video of the Noise from another person video:

Now i have tried several steps that have been recommended before, a list follows:

1: Supercharger Changed
2: Power Steering pump topped up with new Oil
3: Alternator Swapped out
4: Serpentine belt removed (Noise was still there, just quieter, but still prevalent)
5: Air Filter Replaced With K&N
6: Taken to a mechanic who said, "Supercharger or Power steering"

Now i don't see how it could be power steering or supercharger as the belt disconnects them to a point where they no longer spin. I have also done the finger test with the oil, and my engine oil is quite grainy, so that will be flushed and replaced, in case this helps with diagnoses.

The noise seems to be at the top part to bottom right part of the engine.

any help would be appreciated. I really need someone who has experienced this noise to tell me what it is and i should be able to repair the issue.

Hi.

Invest in an automotive stethoscope , it will help you pick up the source of the noise.

More likely idle or tensioner pulley

Trying to diagnose your problem with a video of a completely different engine is, to say the least, unhelpful.

A normally aspirated V6 sounds nothing like an in line 4 cylinder engine with a Supercharger.

Many "noises" are normal sounds and harmonics and each engine type will have its own characteristics.

As said above, check pulleys and idlers before changing more expensive parts for no benefit.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. As the noises where similar, i thought it would be helpful. I will video it myself to show when i get home.

The issue with the idler or tensioner is that i have removed the belt and the noise has persisted. I assumed this would eliminate any pulley issues, I am open to being wrong though.

Once again, thanks for the reply.
