ok so coming from a C180W204 where my all tyres inc tears were lasting 20+k miles to a C250 CDI W204 it now appears my new Continental co tact sports that were new on in Feb are pretty much on the limit after just over 10k miles. Is this normal on this diesel model? Seems pretty excessive? They have worn ever so slightly more on the outside of the tyre but not excessively so. Best guess is I’m down to 2mm.

Rear pressures are 36 but we’re 28 for a while due to the misses not checking.

Ideally I’d like to change to Michelin cross climates but sizing seems to be an issue.

On another note the front tyres are some cheap Kumho stuff but look like they have another 10-15k in easy.

Thoughts... advice. Tyres every 10k seems pretty excessive

Yes this is high for normal driving, I ran a w204 c320cdi for 6 years and I personally found Michelin Pilot sport 3 or 4’s to give the best wear, a little more expensive but well worth it IMO

Just had a free winter check and my Conti,s on rear 255x35x18 after 24,500mls, have 4mm tread, :)
And I don't creep about.

My thoughts that you are using the extra power of the 250 or your tracking is out. Kumhos are not a cheap tyre but more an intermediate.
I would expect the fronts to last longer than the fronts.

At 10,000 Miles my 255x35x19 Conti 5P's rears were showing serious wear, but just changed them at 17,000 ish for Michelin Super Sports!

10 K appears to be normal but not good! :wallbash:

Just changed at all 4 on my E220.

Just about managed 9k steady miles out of a set contis before they were finished.

Thanks all. Well abit of Googling reveals that conti contact sports tyres don’t seem to do to well on Merc diesel rear wheel drive estates, seems a lot of people are getting 10-12k with a big diesel lump on Contis. Tracking shouldn’t make too much difference on the rear unless all the cambers are way off I’m guessing and there maybe only a MM difference from inside to outside.
My Mrs uses the car 99% of the time and drives like a saint on country A roads sonwas hoping for better. Think I’m going to go Avon’s for the next set and see how we go. I would love to let these tyres wear all the way down but we live on the West coast of wales where inches of standing water are a daily sight on our roads. Only reason I knew they might be worn is when I had a very loose back end of the motorway yesterday driving through some pretty serious rain.

Anyone got any recommendations on tyres for 245 40 17’s? Don’t really want to pay more than £100 a corner if I can help it. Was going to get Michelin cross climates but they seem to be around £130 Mark at the moment!

Happy New Year all!

I am assuming that sporty tyres will have softer compound, so the ContiSportContact will be more gripy but won't last as long.

If getting the maximum miles out of a tyre is important to you, perhaps you should consider the ContiPremiumContact or even ContiEcoContact tyres instead?

Uniroyal Rainsport 3's are a good wet weather tyre and come in under the £100 mark. Not the hardest of wearing but not overly soft either.

My W204/C250 estate needs new rear tyres after 17K and I don't hang about - Hankook Ventus V12 on all 4 wheels and very impressed with them. I ditched ContactSport's on my W203 estate after getting fed-up with premature wear and the edges of the tread scrubbing too easily.

I have done around 20,000 miles and am on the limit for tread. Still going to buy the same again.....seem to grip very well, apart from last couple of months seem to get a little slip...tacking into account of cold weather etc. Probably due to wear.

So had my new tyres fitted today at ATS via black circles l, 2 x Kumho ecsta 71’s or something. Anyway my old tyres measured the following... inners to outers:

OSR 3/1.6/3
NSR 3/2/3

What do we think of that? Smacks of over inflation right? Thing is they were under inflated a large part of this year. They should be 36 according to the fuel flap

My rear tyres have always worn like that at the book pressure. Part of the problem is the book pressure is for 3 passengers and some luggage and if you are not always carrying that load then the pressure is a little too high. The other reason rears are specified higher than they might need to be for the load is concerns about avoiding oversteer. Manufacturers would much rather the car understeered on the limit for safety so they specify higher rear pressures than front. I drop my rear pressures 2 psi to be the same as the front which helps even out the wear. I also do the old fashioned thing of tyre rotation swapping rears to the front.

My experience of Contis on my 968 coupe (16's, 205/50 and 225/40) and the S204 (same 16" sizes) was rubbish, wore out quickly and were noisy. On the S204 I changed from 16" Contisports to 17" rims and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, much quieter, excellent grip wet/dry and wearing well, have Goodyear Efficientgrip 16's on the 968 cab and equally happy with those. Must admit at next change on the S204 I'm tempted to look at Michelin Cross Climate or similar and sell my winter wheel set - which I haven't used for 2 years now!

Long time forum lurker here, but first time poster.

I've just replaced the rear tyres on my 2017 W205 C220cdi AMG line estate. The MO Bridgestones lasted 22,000 miles and were down to the wear bars. I'm not a fast driver and usually travel solo or with one passenger, but sometimes with a boot full of work clobber. I've just had a pair of Kumhos fitted. Let's see how they fare...

Had cross/climates on previous S204 and they were the best tyres iv ever had. Unfortunately I can’t get them in the rear sizes on the new S205 CDI if I could I’d get them in a heartbeat no matter what the cost, they are that good at what they do!

Sorry meant New S204 not S205. I could get them in the front profile of 225 45 but not on rears 245 40’s 17. Hope they bring out more sizes and profile.ms in the future.
