My serpentine belt failed today and i'm trying to get it off but it seems stuck behind the ac pulley.
Can the pulley be taken off or loosened?

I don't know , but from what I have seen whenever you see them for sale (new or used) the pulley seems to be an integral part. Or at least one that would be a real pig to get off with the pump in situ. DENSO AIR CON COMPRESSOR FOR A MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS ESTATE 2.2 70KW | eBay

I hope you get it sorted, pretty cramped working down there. Any idea why the belt went pop ?

Removing the pulley should not be necessary, can’t you grab the belt and pull it out? A jerking action is usually effective. Alternatively attack it with a Stanley knife? You’ll be fitting a new one anyway.

Looks like it was a plastic pulley. Ordered the serpentine kit that includes the belt, 4 pulleys and tensioner.

I will let the technician at work sort it out now. Almost got my arm stuck yesterday😂

have you checked out the alternator over run pulley first ? that would be my first port of call for shredded belt, they jam up and destroy belt, from what ive seen compressor wheels separate from backing and others just get noisy of rough when ya spin with belt off

either way if you replacing all them parts I would not over look alternator pulley

yes is very simple if you have correct tools, just a simple spline and long torx set up, the alternator pullies are cheap about £25, and if you have it all striped out even if ok for cost of part change anyway

again I would def check all pullies before replacing AC pully

if you do an internet search the AC pulley delaminating the outer ring from rest of ft is common for damaged belt

But an RMP related issues is not as common with damaged AC pulley, usually point to alternator or other pulley

I could be wrong, but 100% check or replace overrun at same time for cost of £25

Where could i get a pulley from?
Mercedes say they don't sell it separately.

common part, look on ebay, check EPC for your car BMW Parts Catalog

but first if car with ya indi and stripped out ask him what he thinks, its common for client to tell an indi what to do, and they will do it, usually best is to ask indi what's needed and just give symptoms and not the fix

me noisy belt then striped damaged belt, suggest pulley

damaged delaminated compressor pulley could see

Locked compressor would not turn

Car done. One plastic pulley was knackered and alternator was ok.

Glad its sorted, let's hope the plastic pully resulted in damage and not pully was damaged as a result of other issue

Either way new belt would have helped and plastic pulley well known fault

Just keep ear out for any noise

So how many alternator pulleys have you changed or bought for £25 ?
