I have a Dasdh cam that I want to hardwire somewhere in the car. I have searched and someone has said that their is a connection in the Glove box. Has anyone done a succesful hardwire or should i go straight to the fuse box.?

I've been speaking to Halfords about getting mine hardwired but was reluctant to let a teenager pull fifty grands worth of dashboard apart! I spoke to a local car audio specialist who said the cigarette lighter is a good place to wire it from as this becomes 'live' once the ignition is switched on. The only disadvantage could be the function where the camera starts to record when the car is parked with the ignition off.
I'm certain I'm going to let my local car audio guy hardwire the dash-cam once I've bought one - that's the difficult bit.....choosing the right one!

I wired mine into the cig lighter socket in the glove box its controlled by the ign key. W204

The only live I've found in my S204 ignition off is the telephone pre-wire in the centre arm rest. The Ipod thing in the glove box and all the cigarette lighter type things (including the one in the boot area!) are only live ignition on.

just bought a mini 806 dashcam for my w204, not just have to find a car stereo shop to fit it

Likewise on my S212 E-Class. Comand Online did it for £45.

Does the cameras power lead come fitted with a cigar plug? If it does just fit an extra lighter socket in the boot. Adds an extra feature to the car, makes it easy to remove camera on to your next car. Use an "add a fuse" and you wont have to hack into the wiring either. New socket, about £4.

Why a camera?

Hi, if that is general curiosity, my reasons are simply to be able to prove fault in the event of an accident.

I am more concerned about it these days due to the increase in criminals coordinating accidents, whiplash claims and general bad driving due, in the main, to standards dropping and the number of foreign drivers.
