W204 Key Not Working

Hello all

Have been having an intermittent problem with unlocking/locking the car using the main key for a few months.

Changing the battery briefly helped as did, bizarrely, knocking or dropping the key.

Once you were in the car and placed the key in the ignition, the key would work fine in starting the car.

Now, however, the key has stopped working completely - won't unlock/lock the car and won't start the car.

In fact, when the key is inserted or removed from the ignition, you no longer hear the normal sound the car makes when this happens.

Wondered if anyone can advise if the key can be repaired or if a new one will have to be purchased?

(Luckily, I managed to find the spare key which seems to be working fine).

I'm having the same problem, did you manage to sort it out. Mine was working fine. Had it in my pocket while I waxed the car, then key never worked again. Spare key works fine. Any help appreciated

No - looked into it, but as I was back up and running via the spare fob, I let life get in the way and didn't pursue it.

I'm now having similar problems with the spare fob which has become the main fob so need a swift solution.

I just tried to open the car and nothing so changed the battery with a new one and still nothing.

I then used the actual key to unlock the car which triggered the alarm, inserted the fob into the dash which turned off the alarm and then successfully started the car.

The fob is now unlocking/locking the car without issue - tested the previous battery and it is fine so have re-inserted that and tested and all OK.

Did you get yours sorted? If so, what was the solution? Anyone else able to offer any advice/guidance.
