W204 c class
Hi,

So I have a w204 that I want to scrap under the current ULEZ scheme in London (2k for any car with mot).

Long story short, I soldered a thicker neutral cable onto one of the rear lights (due to a common fault) but didn't use an insulated cable. (I was going to wrap insulation tape around it but forgot in my haste to test everything was working alright).

The cable must have touched something it shouldn't. Now the vehicle has no power whatsoever (not even the clock is illuminated).

Is it likely I just blew a/some fuse(s) or could I have caused some major damage? Also, does anyone know what size fuses the car takes?
Thank you.

(The car is in South London and I live in North now. It was pouring with rain, late on a Sunday evening when I hopefully just blew some fuses.)

There are a variety of fuses, take a selection.
but check to see if there is a main fusible link.
check you reconnected the battery terminals the right way around  might have blown the SAM (if that model has them)

if it’s going for scrap, you can maybe deliver it on a tow truck  - if it’s got an mot surely that meets the criteria?

Thanks. This will be helpful. Unfortunately it doesn't show what blades are required (standard, mini, etc)

It doesn't have mot. Haven't driven it since 2019 and it's left in the car park of my previous address.
Plenty of online breakers will collect the car no need to get it running.
They are offering around £500. The govt will give me £2000.
Have you got recovery ?
Tape the wire up and say the car won’t start ?
Hmm I might try this.
You didn’t leave the battery accidentally disconnected/not bolted up all the way did you? That got me once.
I didn't have it fully bolted in for the test but I've since bolted it up correctly and tried with a spare battery I had, no luck.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll just buy a couple different packs of fuses and hope for the best.

But you said the Gov scheme is £2k for cars with an MOT
(I thought it must have had one, so you could just tow it to the drop off point- and not have to bother doing any work)

Then later said it’s got no MOT and hasn’t been driven since 2019 - it’s going to depend on how much you need to spend to get it mobile (to get an MOT) and actually get it thru the MOT.

hope it wakes up easily…..

Get a competent vehicle electrician to check it out as a cash "homer"-you probably have blown one or more fuseable links which are often part of one of the sam units
