C220 CDI sport 2008
Hi all,

Just bought a 2008 C220 cdi sport, just wondering what running temp your cars are running at.

When cold after some city stop start traffic, my temp rises to about 40 degrees but once hot and in standstill traffic this can rise to just over 80 degrees. But when on the motorway the temp can drop to 40/60degrees at around 70 to 80mph. Is this normal ?

Thanks
Bobby

Sounds like a thermostat problem, suggest it is stuck half open, suggest you either take it out and check it yourself or get a local mechanic to do it.

80 to 82 once warm. No fluctuations. looking like a thermostat problem

Thanks for your replys

Yes I did think there was an issue with the thermostat, like you said it may be stuck half open, I will take to a garage to have it looked at, hopefully
A quick fix, or replacement thermostat.

Thanks All!

Yours is 646 like mine. Should be at 95.

I had to change mine a couple of years back. Imo state are almost a routine service part, they do fail with age. Fairly easy job if you want to diy. Sits on top of the engine near the front. Need a cloth to stop the bolts vanishing into the engine bay.

Get a genuine mb stat from eBay, they're no too pricey.

These engines (Om651) are synonymous with thermostat failures. Yours sounds like classic , relatively cheap easy fix at about 30-45 mins labour. Iv has 2 on my C250 in under 3 years.

90degC is the magic number which an OM646 engine should operate at/remain at. Anything less means time for a new thermostat.

Mercedes. Search the forum for OM651 thermostat. Several in the past month. 3 years seems to be their limit.

90’s spot on but it should not drop down at all once it’s reached that temperature.

Does anyone have a step by step guide to replace the thermostat with the plastic housing?
