Sunroof currently stuck closed and will not open electrically. When trying to open maually via the motor using an allen key only passenger side lifts partially and drivers side remains down. I am guessing there is an issue with drivers side like the rail has failed and there is now an obstruction however how do i get the glass off to investigate if i cannot lift that side to enable access to remove it. All the info i have says you need access to front of rails to remove bolts to slide back roof. Help please!!

Unfortunately this will require a pair of new runners, a set of tubes and possibly a motor also.
Thankfully Mercedes do supply the runners seperately.
Infrequent use and lack of lubrication causes the cables to stretch. So now what’s happenings that one side is out of sequence with the other.
The repair is involved something most garages may not want to get involved with.
Depending on how seized yours is, the first challenge is being able to get the glass back in order to access the rails. Can be very difficult.

Thanks for your reply… i think i know what needs doing to repair as there are lots of stuff on youtube however its getting the glass off without currently being able to access the nuts at the front. Thats what i am struggling to understand how i do that?
what you will need to do is manually open the roof with Allen key, whilst someone pushes up and back on the side that isn’t lifting. You will get grinding and slipping. Ideally you want both sides to go up and back as simultaneously as possible. Once lifted up, you will be able to keep going back, it will slip on the cable but you only need to get both sides back far enough to remove the glass. Once glass is off, it will all be easy.
