As the title suggests I'm getting the famous BAS ESP ABS lights on my dash. This has been an intermittent issue for the past year, and I am 90% sure it has something to do with the brake light switch as it only ever came on when I pressed the brake pedal, also when looking in the rear view mirror I could tell (especially at night time) that the high level brake light would not light up. Due to this being an intermittent fault which only occurred once every 6 months (give or take) I just left the brake light switch as it is.

Today however the BAS ESP ABS lights came on whilst I was driving, where as the past few times the brake pedal would trigger these errors to come up, this time I did not press the brake pedal.

The lights are now permanently on the dash as soon as I start the car I get the 3 errors.

I probably wont get the chance to see my local Indy this week so was wondering in the mean time before I get the car scanned with STAR does anyone have ideas of what could cause these lights to come on immediately when I start the car and stay on.

Thank you :)

hi.
I have an ML270, so do not know if this will help or not.
Read lots of times that brake light switch can cause this issue, cheap and easy to replace.
My ML had BAS/ESP light come on, and it needed a steering angle sensor reset, this was due to tracking being out, got tracking done and then lock to lock three times slowly, lights went out.
I also had the ABS light come up, but that was on its own and i had to perform a "drive test" run, the light went out after this, no one could tell me why this light came on, it would not reset until i had performed the drive test. Complicated, but worked.
I would try steering angle reset, as costs nothing, then brake light switch, then perhaps have codes read somewhere.

Thanks for the reply will give the steering angle reset a go tomorrow, and report back :)

I concur on the brake switch, replace it first before looking at the TCM /Conductor plate /plug

The brake light switch is easily changed and cheap to buy, best place to start as it will probably be the problem.

So I managed to get the car hooked up to a star diagnostic computer today and it turned out my alarm system was to blame. Apparently yesterday when I washed my car water managed to get to the alarm system and that caused a fuse to blow.

I have now had the alarm disabled and fuse replaced. Errors have gone from the dash.

I doubt this is a common fault but incase someone else finds themselves with the bas esp and abs lights on, it's probably worth adding the alarm system to the list of potential culprits.

Thank you everyone who has commented above and tried to guide me in the right direction :)

thats a surprise, would not have even considered it was the alarm
