Hi from a newbie:)

I've only just bought a 2002 (W210) e320CDI avantgarde estate and I'm trying to wire in a tow bar. I therefore need its wiring diagram to indentify indicator wires etc.

Can anyone advise what's the cheapest way to source the above?

Thanks

Just use a muliti-meter to find the correct wires. turn the indicatos on and use the meter to find the voltage etc etc.

Why not use a wiring harness designed for the car. Then you would just need to find the connector that accepts the plug on the harness. No problems with bulb warnings etc.

Hi - did you ever resolve this - I'm trying to do the same thing. It's a phaff getting at the system with a meter to test them all as everything's closed off, and there is no plug 'n' play option for this vehicle, so it's a manual wire-in job.

Cheers all.

There is a dedicated wiring option... Erich Yeseger wiring set MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS (W210) Saloon | In the online shop of rameder.eu: | Rameder

Can't help on the wiring, but on mine (without the above kit), it's all connected in behind the spare wheel, where there is a convenient earth.

Thanks. Perplexing thing is I can't find anything in the car the corresponds to the plugs on that kit, and the main dealer (ha!) assures me that they have to solder the connections when they fit a tow bar as there are no plugs etc. Witter (who supplied the bar) told me the same thing, and supplied a kit with scotch locks and instructions to tap into the wires.

I was told that it plugs into the back of the light switch, and that you still have to tap in to the indicators.

Debatable whether it's worth the bother with all the effort to get to the light switch...

Thanks. Just been out in the pouring rain, dropped out the NSR cluster and metered it. Results are 4 wires:

1. Brown = Earth
2. Red + Black = Brakes
3. Grey + Black = Sides
4. Black + White = Indicators (not looked at colour on other side as hissing down now!)

If you're fitting, you can come up from beneath through the grommet for the rear parking sensors feed, which is under the spare wheel and obvious when you look. You can tap into the wiring from there up near the rear light cluster. It looks as though the feeds for the OSR run past here too, but not tested that yet on account of the rain!

Pretty sure that the other side will be grey/red for sidelights and black/green for indicator if my memory serves me well.

Correct sir, well remembered. Turns out there is no wiring for of O/S near the spare, so you have to bring across the indicator and sides, which I did easily by taking the screws out of the chrome step thing on the inside boot lip, and running beneath - access from the sides of that point is fine.

Much to my surprise, everything worked first time. Word of caution, there is a lot of bad drafting on the interweb - be wary that you are looking at the wiring/pin numbering for a socket, not a plug, when you test, or it's reversed of course.
