Hi

So I have a slight problem with my boot (electric)

So in the past since purchase last year the boot would unlock and open whether I press the key fob, interior switch or pull the latch on the boot, if I walked away from the vehicle while it was opening it would open and stop (any position e.g half way) as if it had lost contact with the key and frozen, when I pull on the boot latch as if I was opening when fully closed it would carry on opening as normal.

The issue now is the boot unlocks using the boot latch, interior switch & fob but does not open at all ( I have to manually pull it up) the same applies when closing .

All boot lights are fully working including the lock.

P.s I have read other post with similar issues but everything I look at included the boot interior lights, centre brake light etc also not working, or the lock or a specific switch. With mine everything is working apart from the boot automatically lifting and closing

Do I apply the same concept as other people strip the boot liner check the loom ( which is a pain) or is there anything else I need to check before I do all that (I have checked the fused)

Many thanks

can you feel resistance from the spring when you open and close it ?

what year is the car ?

you'd really need to strip out the boot interior side panels and see whats going on , its possible the spring mech has snapped/come adrift or is jammed somehow . you can view the spring through the slots at the side though, to some extent. as shown here ==

Thanks, Yh I plan on doing this next week as I am away for a week, will update when I do it.

Also when entering the vehicle this morning saw a number plate bulb error for one side so check and seems that one side bulb is not working so I’ll look into that at the same time, just strange how it failed this morning and not the same time as the boot failed [emoji848]

left hand bulbs are problematic , its probably not even blown , just remove and replace , lock up car reopen and try the side lights. the circuit is on a timer and power to the bulb shuts down while your changing it .

So the number plate bulb decided it wants to work the next day so that seemed to fix itself

I have checked the springs for the boot and they seem fine, I have replaced the fuse ( am I correct that F011 on the fuse manual is for the boot ?) and it still does not work, I have checked the wiring where it commonly breaks by the boot mechanism and can’t find any fault in wiring

What should I be checking next? Also is there a relay for the electronic boot, if so which one is it?

Many thanks

When you unlock the whole car or boot with remote or switch inside car, do you hear a motor running in the boot lock? It may be very quiet, place a recording device like your smart phone video recorder with it running inside the boot so you can hear whats going inside boot.

does your boot use a motor to open and close it or just rely on the springs ?

It’s an electronic boot so it shuts and closes on its own I have attached an image

The lock is fine I can hear it quite clearly when it opens but can’t hear the motor so what I did was keep my finger on the open boot button on my key and I can’t seem to hear the motor but I can hear the lock itself unlock

please ignore my previous comments then , i thought it was the spring loaded boot lid.

I too assumed it was spring loaded.

Is that a broken White wire, bottom left of above picture?

Nah that’s what I thought so I went out and checked again and realised it was just glare lol

id imagine the problem lies with the motor , having no power or its broken .

Perhaps the electronic boot motor/mechanism is ok, but, it can’t operate until it is told by the boot lock that the boot lock is open or shut, maybe there is a sensor in the boot lock that is not doing its job of informing the electronic boot motor/mechanism that the lock has opened or shut.

Just a thought.

So I finally got round to plugging an mb 11 diagnosis tool to the vehicle which displays an error ( in image ).

After I clear the code the boot opens and closes as it should. It did it twice yesterday but today when I tried to open the boot it is still faulty so I cleared the code again and it worked again so I locked the car then tried again and would not open ( does unlock )

Obviously by looking at this I would replace the control module but I would like to know if there would be anything else that could be throwing up this error.

Thanks all help heavily appreciated

Ok so I finally got round to replacing the boot lid module.

No fault code coming up

The problem is the boot is only opening half way and I have to manually pull it up all the way, any ideas why this might be happening ?
