Hi All,

I recently has a replacement igniter and bulb fitted which didn't last long as evenutally melted. I went to fit another set today but the igniter doesn't seem to lock in well. I compared this to the other side which was firmly in place.

I ensured the locking tabs were in the open position so that the bulbs 2 side slots can go in.

I did not connect the green wire before fitting the igniter

I push the igniter in firmly to the back of the bulb and turn to lock it but it stays loose.

The moment I go to put the green cable in, it simply rotates the igniter to the open positions (11 o'clock)

It does work as I connected it and tested but it starts off very blue compared to the other side. Then settles down to 4300k temp light colour after a minute.

I fitted Osram D2S bulbs brought from an authorised UK seller.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Bump.

I tried again but no luck. When i get the igniter onto the bulb and turn. There is no definite snap feel of it locking into place. It turns as far as it can and its very loose.

Hope its not a case of having to replace the headlamp unit

Hi SL0WLY, I found this video for w211 xenon replacement with a good explanation on how the bulb and igniter detached and re-installed and is the best I have found.

I know from bitter experience with my previous S211 CDI xenon bulb assembly which projector mechanism was destroyed by a so called “European car repair specialist” because they tried to fit the bulb with out dropping the bumber and moving the expansion tank. Result a new headlamp fitted by Mercedes !!!

Presently my right side xenon bulb failed and my diagnostics tool is showing bulb use as 144000hrs and the bulb life is 120000 so I am seriously considering buying two new headlamps from AUTODOC as Mercedes are no longer supplying the complete light assembly. Only the bulb and igniter and control unit components with total cost north of £450 +vat are supplied. My E63 is my forever machine and it’s likely the LHS will be going soon, so new headlights it will be fitting them myself. Hope this helps.

Thanks Vincyby, I watched the video and it sort of highlights my problem. When this fella goes to lock the igniter into place it firmly locks in whereas with mine it goes to the 12 o clock position but its loose. Doesn't stay, can literally turn it anti-clockwise with the slightest touch.
